Considering the Lake District is not far from me, I hadn’t visited it until my birthday. I knew how stunning it was through friends but didn’t realise it until I went to see it myself. The real question is, why haven’t I visited in my 20+ years living up here? I don’t have a damn clue. It’s never too late to visit and I want to visit again.

For a first visit, we had decided to do glamping rather than book an Airbnb or hotel. Glamping was also a first for me so I didn’t dislike the idea and was up for trying it. Let’s say, the experience had exceeded my expectations – 4 nights of tranquil and peaceful nights had hit the spot.

Laal Ewe is one of the glamping pods available at Lakeland Glamping. Lakeland Glamping is situated on a working farm in Underbarrow which was a good base for us. We didn’t want to be in an area where there’s a lot of foot fall and wanted self catering. It’s a short drive to the major towns and hikes. FYI, I wouldn’t recommend using Waze to get you to this glamping site as it took us off road and through a random field on the way there. That was hilarious.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the lovely Deb. She informed us about a little issue regarding the lock on the door and it was resolved on the following day. The self check in and checkout was seamless. The pod itself was well equipped and contain everything you need including toiletries – we did forget to bring additional tuppleware and some other kitchenware but this pod had it all! The essentials like bread, milk, tea, coffee, butter etc were provided and to my surprise, a box of chocolates, a bottle of rose and a birthday card which was a beautiful touch and gesture.

The pod was clean and you have so much privacy as it faces the open, farmland and you’ll be welcomed by cows and sheep. If you’re about it being cold, put those worries away. It was well insulated and under floor heating is available too. There’s no issues with the shower as you’re guaranteed hot water all the time. Despite it being small, it didn’t feel cramped whatsoever and had plenty of space and storage for our luggage and bags. There’s a cosy firepit outdoors for those relaxing evenings under the starlit skies.

There’s no WiFi and I didn’t get good signal on my phone, “H” at best, but my other half was able to get 4G. However it didn’t bother us as it was a good digital detox to allow us to be in the present and embrace the surroundings. It was bliss.

Nearby is a local pub called “The Black Labrador” that does amazing food and is a 10 minute walk. I’d recommend bringing a torch (one is provided in the pod!) for when it gets dark so you can walk safely.

I would definitely recommend staying at Laal Ewe at Lakland Glamping if you’re visiting the Lake District and want somewhere quiet that contains all of the amenities you need. We will 1,000,000% be back.
