I’m thinking of creating a new series, rounding up the month to keep track of what I’ve been up to, how I’m feeling, anything interesting I want to share etc. An online diary is essentially what it is. These days, it’s hard for me to remember the good times since I focus too much on the bad and then naturally believe the month hasn’t been productive. This would be a gentle reminder to highlight the good times as well as the bad and to be nicer to oneself. Here is the first instalment of the monthly musings series (and yes I’m aware I’m posting this mid September but will hopefully change this!).
Long Covid Feels
At the beginning of the month, I was feeling defeated by this, resulting in wallowing in self-pity. I wasn’t able to go back to normality just yet and didn’t feel like there was any improvement. Plans were cancelled so what was there to look forward to? FOMO kicked in. You can say, I saw stuck in a rut at home and essentially, didn’t know how to get out of it or how long it will last this time. After many tearful calls to my other half (who has been an absolute rock), we’ve come up with a plan to help me ease back into normality.
Edinburgh & Fringe Festival
Following on from above, one plan was visiting Edinburgh. This is my first time visiting this stunning city and all I can say is, refreshing. The only downfall was the bin strikes meaning there were overflowed bins and trash everywhere which wasn’t ideal but hey ho, things happen. But all in all, it didn’t ruin the lasting impression I had of Edinburgh and I do wish to visit again. I was mesmerised by the old town’s medieval architecture, the views from Edinburgh castle and the history. I’m not back to my old fitness levels so hiking to Arthur’s Seat was out of the question. Next time for sure though! Instead, I went to a gin tasting, loved it.
We stayed in the Haymarket area which was the perfect location to be a tourist and visit Fringe festival which we were able to catch the last few days during our stay. The tourist attractions and event venues were within walking distance and we had clocked around 20,000 steps on average a day. If you haven’t been to Fringe before, I would highly recommend. It has a huge range of acts to suit all ages, some are free, some are paid for, plus there are many free acts on the streets dotted around the town center. Hopefully I’ll be back next year.
I’ll do a separate post detailing my Edinburgh trip.
