SOMETHING DIFFERENT

I remember the moment I had received some not so good news on a Wednesday morning, I knew I had to fly back to Hong Kong ASAP. Had books flights that Wednesday evening and flew out the following Sunday. I wanted to fly out the next day or the Friday but due to it being last minute, flight tickets were £1000 and more. One airline was £2000! Sunday was the cheapest and had flown with Emirates. I’ve flown with them many, many times and are always a pleasure to fly with. I may have got my foot stuck in the back of the seat on the Manchester to Dubai flight. Not going to explain any further haha.

I go to Hong Kong every year or two and have decided this time round if I have some free time, I would visit places I have never been before, see new things. I would always go and do the same thing on every visit and it’s getting a bit boring now. Made a list of places and food to eat and decided to visit them whenever I had some free time. I didn’t get to go to every place on my list but I wasn’t in a rush to squeeze everything in as there were other priorities. There’s always next time. Photo time!

The Legend of Hong Kong Toys at the Hong Kong Museum of History
（香港歷史博物館 －「香港玩具傳奇」）
The Legend of Hong Kong Toys is an exhibition currently on where you can go and look at the past toys from around the 1930s to the present. There were a lot of toys and cartoon characters I had recognised and a lot I haven’t seen before due to being born and raised in the UK. It brings back so many memories and you just reminisce at the ones you recognise. Even though this is based on the Hong Kong past and present, you are able to recognise many toys like Barbie, Marvel action figures, Sailor Moon, Thomas the Tank Engine, various games consoles, yellow plastic ducks, robot dog toy (can’t remember the name) and many, many more. It is on until the 15th May 2017 and there is a HK$10 entrance fee.

Hotel
For 7 nights, I had stayed in Dorsett Mongkok. I had found them through booking.com and am glad that I had chosen this, well mum preferred this branch over the others. It’s close to an MTR station, easy to get to, the road opposite is full of cafes and restaurants, 15 minutes walk to the centre of Mongkok and it’s close to where my auntie and cousin lives. Mum and I opted for the standard twin room, no breakfast included and in Hong Kong, hotel rooms aren’t big so I wasn’t surprised at the size of the room. There was plenty of room to walk and store our suitcases. As mum and I agreed, it’s got beds and a bathroom, it doesn’t matter how big or small the actual room is. We’re only there to sleep in.

Wish I had taken a photo of the full room. It was really nice. I’m a sucker for the little things like the mirrored wall, window table (both you can see me in the photo doing a backbend below). We were placed on the 6th floor and wasn’t facing the main road. Evenings were quiet and the view wasn’t that bad.



There is a gym on the first floor, it’s quite basic so don’t get your hopes up. The highest dumbbell weight is 25lbs (11.3kg) which isn’t much. There are a few cardio machines and a bench. No barbells or weight machines however I was able to make do with what it’s got. HIIT session all the way, with a few free weight exercises, followed by a lovely stretch. With all the food I had consumed, a gym session on most days was definitely needed.

There are three other branches, Wan Chai, Kwun Tong and Tsuen Wan. Wan Chai is a great location as it’s on Hong Kong Island. In my opinion, the latter two are a bit far from the main areas and tourist attractions but if you don’t mind the distance, it’s worth a try. I know Dorsett International has a few other hotels like Silka (one branch is round the corner from Dorsett Mongkok) and would try those out too. Would I stay again? Why yes, yes I would.

8 days, 7 nights in Hong Kong flew by so quick, just in a blink of an eye. I did pick up a few bits and pieces so will hopefully post that up next!
