5 Don’ts for a Happy Life

IT ALL STARTS WITH YOU

When you’re in the midst of reflecting on life whilst in the shower, ideas of blog posts come about. I was thinking about a workout I didn’t do my best in on one morning however smashed it the next day. I was happy on both occasions then was deep in thought about what happiness is and how to live a happy life. I had come up with don’ts for a happy life.

Don’t beat yourself about it
We all have a personal best we want to beat or goal to reach. If you make mistakes or something went wrong, don’t beat yourself up about it. Take it as a baby step, learn from it and try again. Constantly beating yourself up will have the opposite effect on happiness and affect you mentally which may lead to giving up and losing motivation.

Don’t compare yourself to others
Ahhh. How many times have you heard this? It is hard to not compare yourself to others in today’s society with social media constantly surrounding us. Everyone needs to remember that everyone will post their good times no matter how much they are going through behind the screen. The majority will not talk about what’s going. Like them, we have the option to post what we share and don’t share to the world ourselves. No matter how successful they are, they started from the bottom and worked hard to where they currently are. Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. Just remember, everyone is human, has emotions and started from the beginning.

Don’t dwell and hold onto things
The past, the present and the future. Keeping hold of the past and living in it will not help you move on and live in the present. Many people worry about what the future holds but, in reality, you have the ability to change it. Any regrets or grudges you may have, let them go. You’ll feel a big weight off your shoulders. You’re in control. Live in the moment, one day at a time.

Don’t be afraid
Whether it’s to say no, speak up, admitting you’re wrong, taking chances etc. It’ll be the first step of whatever it is and you’ll feel brave about it. Admitting you’re wrong or not perfect is a fragile topic but it will help break down those walls and bind everyone together. It isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength. Taking a chance shows you’re willing to try and are brave regardless of the outcome. Regardless of how enormous and how minute the situation is, you’ll be showing your strength.

Don’t give up
Goals and dreams. It’s not going to be straight forward and all unicorns and rainbows. You will have to make adjustments along the way even if it means taking 2 steps backwards at some point. As long as you keep on trying, welcoming the ups and downs life throws at you, and not accepting “no” as an answer, you will get there eventually. Nothing is really over or impossible until the moment you’ve completely stop trying.

Bonus: Don’t give a shit
Language! Stop caring what others think of you. They’re the ones who know you the least and will always judge with what they hear about you and see what you do. They won’t understand your actions, what’s going on etc. They’re not going to spend time to get to know you so why care for toxic people and their toxic thoughts? Just be you. If others don’t like it, give them a smile, walk away and cut them out of your life. You can’t please everyone. I always say, the day you stop caring is the day you can start enjoying your life.

Are there any more you can think of?

Stay in the loop

Comparing yourself to others is such a killer, isn't it? The best way to see how far we've come is to compare ourselves to, well, ourselves. I'm trying to improve my photography at the mo, and looking back, I kinda cringe at my old photos, but also look at my new ones with a little bit of pride (still far from what I want to achieve but hey!).

  29. Totally agree about comparing yourself with others – truly the thief of joy! I think sometimes it is good to be slightly afraid of doing something – makes the feeling of achievement afterwards so intense.
