GROUP FITNESS
It can be hard to stay consistent and may be challenging to even make it to the gym, never mind the actual workout. Even if you are a gym goer, it doesn’t hurt to add in a class here and there. This year is the first year I’ve taken classes and I haven’t looked back. These are reasons why I love them and reasons why you should start.
Helps You Stay Motivated
When you book a class, you feel obliged to go. I find this helps me workout whenever I don’t feel like doing it, it’s my time of the month, horrendous weather and plenty more reasons. I always feel great after attending.
With other people in the class, they can help motivate you too as you’re less likely to slack off. Your weakness could be their strength and you can take this as motivation to get to that level, hashtag, goals. It may also bring out the competitiveness from within you. If so, make sure it’s healthy and friendly, and not ugly.
Variety
There are many classes to choose from. Some are more cardio based, others are more toning based whilst others are a mix of both. I’ve always believed that there is at least one class suited to everyone. You can mix it up with other classes or incorporate it into your current fitness routine. It can be a trial and error to find the one for you.
Even if you stick to one specific class on a weekly basis, no routine is the same. The instructors plan and structure the workout for each session. They love to bring variety, making sure you’re not doing to same exercises every time which will lead to boredom, as well as your body quickly getting used to it meaning you won’t see the results you would like. They also love to throw in surprises to shock you.
Guidance from the Experts
Form is very important regardless of the exercise and the instructor is there to demonstrate and to correct yours if needed. Once the form is correct, you’ll feel and see the benefits a lot better. Remember, they are there to ensure you don’t get hurt or injure yourself as well as answer any questions you may have. Don’t be afraid of asking.
You Can Go at Your Own Pace
Everyones’ fitness levels are different. You know your limits, you’ll discover what you can and can’t do. Instructors may offer modifications to suit your fitness level so you won’t feel pressured or unaccomplished which may lead to no motivation. You’ll be able to build up your level at your own pace, pushing yourself to reach the next level. They may also offer challenging modifications. You’re constantly challenged throughout the class and it’ll help you push you out of your comfort zone. Just remember, you need to put the work in.
It’s Just Fun
It’s fun to try out new things right? The first class can be scary but if you’ve enjoyed it, you’ll be back for more. This makes exercising a lot more enjoyable and will be the first step in making a better you. You’ll probably also see the same faces more often and may even become friends. Also when there’s good music, you start humming and singing naturally, and you may even start bopping your head during the exercises.
Do you take a fitness class?
I've done tasters at gyms and I use to do pole dancing.I agree it's good to get a routine and help with form in classes.
I dunno, but I prefer jogging than joining a gym. Gyms are expensive and once I did end up paying for annual membership and ended up moving out of that city in 4 months after that…
No fitness class, but your review on Barrecore is making me think twice!

I love company. I enjoy doing fitness routine in a group. There is a sense of belongingness. We are too excited to see for the next session. Group fitness is a part physical development and a part of socialization.
I really need to take.

I love group workouts because I always tend to push myself more when there's an instructor shouting at me x
My gym has a great policy for classes: if you book and don't show up, then you have to pay £4. I find that to be a great motivator that keeps me going to the gym every week. 🙂
You have nothing to lose so it is always a good idea. It is a great way of meeting new people as well!
I love going to spin classes for these very reasons, but I also LOVE going on the elliptical for a good hour and just do nothing but listen to my favourite songs and sweat. Ok, and maybe also lip-sync to some Britney. I know… embarrassing.

I did so many exercise classes before I got pregnant. My favourite was a hula dance class x
Exercise is so important for not just your physical, but mental health too x
My goal for 2017 is to join the gym & take some fitness classes! At home works for a while then I lose my mojo! xo
I joined the gym 2 weeks ago, I agree with you that booking on classes makes you feel obliged!
I started back doing regular classes earlier this year and love it! Classes work really well for me because I can't just give up when I feel lazy – I have to keep pushing through to the end. They make me work so much harder than a regular gym session.
I'm not keen on gyms and I can't commit to going regularly and I'm not very comfortable working out with others. I prefer to exercise on my own at home or go for power walks with friends.
Group fitness classes are a great way to. And new friends with people that have the same mindset too.
I absolutely love going to the gym – it makes me feel good and better about myself. I can't go at the moment, but I'm looking forward to when I can do it again 🙂
I like group classes because the other people usually motivate each other, and it feels good to know more people outside my usual circle.
It really good going into the gym. The level of your fitness keeps growing everyday. However, our health and fitness should be taken as priority.
Variety is really important when working up. It makes it more fun and allows you to work on different muscle groups.
I have never been to a fitness class before but I think I might to keep myself more motivated
I did love going to my fitness classe until they changed everything around and then it become impossible x
I love fitness classes and always look forward to them. I'd even go so far as to say they're the highlight of my week, so I completely agree with you 🙂
I've never been to a gym anymore since I got married. Haha! I don't really know the gym culture nowadays. The ideas you enumerate above are true for any undertaking.
I struggle to stay on a fitness course because I think my preference is playing a sport that's slightly competitive. It's all about finding the right way to exercise for you x
I've not been into a gym since I was a teenager, I do yoga at home! I know my village gym (yeah my small village has a gym, amazing right?) does classes and I should sign up to something completely different from my usual yoga at home. You've inspired me and I'll probably take advantage when they have a new year special price on classes!
I haven't go in a fitness class before and sounds interesting. I would give it a try
Ok one thing I'm not motivated in is fitness… I do quite a lot of walking in my day anyway so don't really make that much time do it, although I have been wanting to start yoga for a while!
I haven't been to a fitness class for a while, but I really enjoyed them when I dd.
I joined a gym a few weeks ago and I'm having problems finding motivation, the problem is my gym only has virtual classes :(, but I do feel like you are making such good points, wish my gym had classes!
