YSL Black Opium Eau de Parfum

Oh my, say hello to my new signature scent. I had read that black coffee was one of the notes and coffee isn’t a pleasant scent for me (I don’t like coffee in general) but was intrigued as to how it comes together. I had the chance to sniff it when I had spare time whilst visiting Nottingham. Instantly fell in love with it’s alluring, gourmand fragrance. If the black coffee note wasn’t there, the perfume would have a generic sweet, floral, oriental smell but instead, the coffee gives it a warm and spicy kick. Once the scent has settled, you can definitely smell the vanilla base note coming through, enveloping the other notes.

Here are the full notes:
Top notes: pink pepper, orange blossom, pear.
Middle notes: coffee, jasmine.
Base notes: vanilla, patchouli, cedar.

I would definitely consider the concoction as edgy, dark, mysterious and sexy, perfect for the night. It is also suitable for day wear. I spray this in the morning then throughout the day, I get whiffs of it and ah, intoxicating. After working an 8 hour shift, it still lingers on my skin. The lasting power had surprised me. This is the first perfume that makes me feel good about myself. Maybe it’s a psychological effect but I feel more confident when I wear this. The packaging is lush. It has that glam rock look, standing out from my white furnishing.

I will definitely be repurchasing this. It’s an upgrade from my previous perfume, Nina Ricci – Ricci Ricci. Next time, it’ll be the 90ml (£80.50) instead of the 50ml. There is a 30ml for £43.50. It definitely is on the pricey side but hey, love makes you do crazy things. I’ve never smelt the original opium fragrance so I cannot compare. If you like a sweet, floral, oriental scent with a warm and spicy kick, this is the one for you. This is also one for the vanilla fans.
