Protein Brownie Batter Overnight Oats

Overnight oatmeal is probably the easiest breakfast meal you can make, but when it’s brownie batter, it takes overnight oats to the next level. Who doesn’t want to eat brownie batter first thing in the morning? If you need an excuse to eat some chocolate then this is the perfect excuse. Say hello to my easy protein brownie batter overnight oats.

I love a simple oatmeal with banana and all the cinnamon, but why not opt for something different for a change? This is a level up from my usual. What I love about overnight oats is the simplicity, hardly any time needed to prepare, suitable for those busy mornings, portable and fills me up, keeping hunger at bay, and reducing the need to snack. Carbs, protein, healthy fats, a well-rounded healthy breakfast without the feeling of guilt.

With the addition of protein powder and Greek yoghurt, it’s an easy way to up and reach your daily protein intake. If you’re struggling to reach your macros like myself, this is an instant winner. This provides a minimum of 25g of protein. Keep in mind, that the overall protein value is subjected to the protein content in your whey protein powder and in other ingredients too – different brands vary in nutritional value. I generally switch between PhD Diet Whey (17g protein) and MyProtein Impact Whey (21g protein). For this brownie batter, I would recommend using chocolate, vanilla, cookies and cream or unflavoured protein powders.

Experiment with different milk and flavours. Everyone’s taste and body are different, thus you are not limited and are free to use what suits you and your needs. Today’s market has a growing list of plant-based milk if cow’s milk isn’t your thing – oat, soya, almond, hazelnut, coconut, rice, and cashew to name a few. Many of these have a chocolate flavour and those would be perfect for this. Add extra chocolate flavour, the more the better right? My favourite is chocolate hazelnut milk. Lush!

PB & J

When it comes to toppings, your options and flavour combinations are endless and you’ll never get bored. I like to see what I’ve currently got stocked up in my house and freestyle it. This brownie batter basic recipe is a great foundation to find your favourite flavour combinations.

  • 1/4 cup (70g) greek yoghurt

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract, optional
  • Honey/maple syrup/sugar/sweetener of your choice, to taste

  1. In a bowl, jar or container, combine all of the ingredients together and stir until incorporated well. Taste, and sweeten more if needed.
  2. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Notes

  • Every protein powder, cacao/cocoa powder absorbs liquid differently. If the batter is too thick to mix, add an extra tablespoon of milk at a time until you reach the desired thickness.
